There is really something wonderful about finding a beautiful, colorful sundress that can be worn for multiple seasons and multiple occasions. This dress is one of those and it’s under $25 and comes in 19 styles. I had just received it in the mail when we had our first warm, sunny day in a week. Jeremy wanted to check out Spring Fest at our local beach and I thought, what better place to try out my new multicolored sundress than at a colorful carnival. We quickly, and awkwardly snapped a few photos and the bright colors just make me happy!
You may recognize THIS colorful sundress from last week’s review of recent purchases but today I want to tell you a little more about why you need one.

A Dress for Different Seasons and Situations
Appropriate for Work and the Classroom
I have a hard time buying a piece of clothing that can’t serve multiple purposes. For example, I should be able to wear a top casually on the weekend and also be able to dress it up in some way for work. But any more, I find it very difficult to find a pretty dress that is affordable and appropriate for work. The cute sundresses I usually find in my price range (under $30) are either too short or too low-cut to wear to work. Even with a cardigan or blazer, a busty top is a busty top!
That’s why I’m so excited about this sundress. Not only is it long enough to bend over without anxiety, but even with the adjustable straps lowered, the cut at the neckline and the smocking keep the bust area covered.
During the Spring
This colorful sundress is sleeveless but you don’t have to wait for the warmth to wear it now. All you need to do is layer. Because the neckline isn’t too low, it looks great layered under another piece.
During the spring while it is still cool, or for work, I would add a brightly colored cardigan (I discovered this one through Katie: see her wearing it here) or a denim jacket for the classroom. For a slightly more professional work environment, I would add a white blazer (my current fave).
School’s Out! Colorful Sundress for the Summer
Then, when summer hits, you will find this colorful sundress is also perfect for your weekend beach trip or running errands around town. The fabric is light and the skirt is billowy without fear of flying up. I just know it will be nice and breezy to stay cool during a humid summer.
The smocked top makes a flattering fit and the adjustable straps allow me to raise or lower the neckline – perfect for when the summer humidity makes me dread any fabric clinging to my neck area.
So, for work, weekend, spring and summer, this colorful sundress can do it all! And, remember, it is only $22 and ships free (and fast) with Amazon Prime. If you love the concept but don’t love the retro pattern, check out the other options available. You’re guaranteed to find one you like!

Thanks Jennifer! I didn’t used to but when I learned the kinds of cuts that work for my body and how to pick accurate sizing from the reviews, my picks improved!

That is a pretty print! I haven’t had any luck with dresses on Amazon but have done well with shirts, pants and other items.

One of my favorite dresses of all time is from Amazon (a lace easter dress that I’ve worn SO MUCH since then) so I was willing to risk it. I have started searching Amazon’s best seller lists and it has resulted in much more success!

I love colorful sundresses but you are so right about finding the one that can work for play and work. I don’t like to fuss with my clothes once it’s on. The neckline and length is normally were I would know if it’s a keeper or not. Love the smocking on this dress. I feel like it keeps things more secure!

The smocking totally does keep things more secure. Plus, I feel like it makes buying a dress from Amazon less risky because it’s more likely to fit right, you know?

Your dress is appropriate for work and for every day. I hope I can find some dresses that can do both before August comes around and I have to start my internship.

When you find them, grab them! It’s not always easy! Oddly enough, I’ve had a lot of luck with those kinds of dresses on Amazon!

Hey there Virginia,
I am also a teacher, well a teacher for teachers, but I always love meeting teachers on this platform! I love this look and that you mention it is great for the classroom as well, but It really it! This time of year, I love wearing bright colors too, something about the bright colors that brighten my mood!

Glad to meet you Robin! I too love meeting other teachers on this platform! This is a great dress for the classroom, partially because of what you said about the bright colors. We all need a little extra cheer in the classroom I think! Plus, I always worry about bending over when dresses are too short or too low-cut but this dress isn’t. It’s perfect for the classroom!

What a great find! I agree that most inexpensive sundresses are crazy revealing. The colors in this one are adorable and it looks fab with your denim jacket. Amazon has some incredible finds, don’t they?
xx Darlene
Virginia says
They do, indeed Darlene! I wouldn’t have thought Amazon would become my new source of inexpensive, appropriate sundresses but it’s true! And I’m glad!

Thank you Jacqui! I can’t believe it took me as long as it did to get a denim jacket. Now I wear it all the time and the day we shot these photos I saw them ALL over. All the women were wearing them. I thought, this really is denim jacket season!
