Hello Friends! I wore this outfit a few weeks ago to school and it was one of those outfits that just made me feel happy all day. Most of the time I flop out of bed in the early morning, throw on one of my simple work-outfit formulas (see one example here) and go. But this day was a day for fancy teacher clothes. I don’t know what made me put on this skirt, since it was still cold outside, but I just love the look that developed from that choice.

Since it is still winter in New England, I paired the skirt with a warm, black crewneck sweater. The sweater was boring on its own but the white collared shirt layered underneath gave it a “pop” of something. The statement necklace and bun were a last-minute addition and ended up being the perfect touch to the fancy teacher clothes. I felt like Audrey Hepburn all day, lol! It’s not every day that I get dressed up so much for school and probably some people thought it was a bit much. But you know…winter days are dark and, as I’ve said before, your outfit can help your attitude!
I had a fellow teacher tell me last week that she was all about comfort, not fashion. I get that, I do (though I would argue you can do both). Was this skirt the most comfortable choice in the winter weather? No. But you know what…it was a comfortable fit and I felt pretty and happy, which gave me confidence.
What do you think? Do you sometimes wear fancy clothes to work, just because you feel like it? Let me know what your favorite outfit is to feel fun and fancy!

I went to church with a kindergarten teacher who dressed this way every day to school. I’m sure it’s not the most practical but it was totally her. She wore a lovely dress every day. Every day. Not a casual dress worn with cute sneaks or flats but full on “adorable” every day. I, too, think you can mix fashion and comfort. I don’t see a reason to be unfashionable regardless of your budget. It just helps me feel good about myself. Shallow? Maybe? But it’s pretty harmless!

I love that she did that! I admire her! That’s the thing! The more put-together I feel, the more comfortable I feel in my own skin. I think that kind of comfort is just as important as other kinds of comfort! (Though I admit I may change my mind as I age, right now I’m going to rock the pumps and midi skirts!) Thanks for stopping by Lisa!

I love the idea of dressing up everyday for work – as long as I can get home and jump into comfy Pjs! It really feels good to be dressed well but doesn’t it feel amazing to get the shoes off too haha x
Virginia says
Haha, exactly! That’s totally what I do, too! There’s something very satisfying about trading the skirt for some sweats when I get home. It reminds me that I’m back home, where it’s comfy and warm!

Really like the gingham skirt, last year I bought my first gingham blouse and then some gingham crops. I might have a look-out for a similar skirt! Jacqui

Beautiful Outfit! Totally love the skirt. No tights!!!! How are your legs not freezing up there in New England?
Virginia says
Haha! I know, no tights! Oddly enough we had about a week of warm-ish weather so I seized the day! I can feel the temps getting cooler again though! And here I thought Spring might actually be on the horizon! Silly me! 🙂

I think your “fancy” teacher outfit complete with the Audrey Hepburn is so chic and put-together. One can do no wrong with black and white or classy/preppy gingham. I want a B+W midi a-line skirt like that. And I am always a fan of a big statement necklace on top of a collar. My job is very casual but I still dress up often and I am usually overdressed. Like you, it makes me feel good and gives me confidence!
Welcome by and join my special Celebration Thursday Moda linkup today, Virginia! It is a good one, plus I think you’d like my look today. 😉 Thank you and have a great weekend! Ada =)
