I tried something new this weekend and I can’t wait to wear this layered crop top to work! Finals are this week and the new semester starts next week, which means I’m scrambling to wrap things up with one class and planning to start all over again next semester. There hasn’t really been any time to think about what I’m wearing in the morning, let alone snap pictures of it. But as I was heading out the door for church this week I realized this was a look that I would totally wear to school, especially as the cooler temps turn to warmer ones. So, we snapped a few pics so I can share.

Pinterest really inspired this look. I have been in a bit of a fashion rut lately and when that happens, I turn to Pinterest to get some inspiration from looks I’ve pinned in the past. A lot of the looks I have pinned for winter and spring involve cropped sweaters over long-sleeve, button-up white shirts. I don’t buy cropped sweaters because…well, they’re cold! But, I’ve had this great trumpet-sleeve, striped top in my closet for a few months and this was just the way to make it work-appropriate.
When this striped tee arrived from Shein, it was much shorter than I expected. It didn’t go back mainly because I loved the price and the soft fabric. I haven’t worn it much to work though because unless I tuck it in, I risk it riding up and exposing my belly…which is NOT work-appropriate for a High School teacher! So, for church this weekend I added a white button-up underneath and voila, a crop top I can wear to work!

Thanks Katherine! Part of my “ah ha” moment when I started getting into fashion was to realize that bright colors make me happy! They help me stay positive when students are complaining or the workload gets overwhelming!

Oh I love how you layered that top to make it work-appropriate (and so cute too!). The sleeves are such a fun way to spice up a basic striped top too!

This outfit is too cute on you and I love how you took a top that was basically a crop top (don’t you hate when they arrive and they’re much shorter than you anticipated?!) and layered it! I really can’t even tell that it cuts short with how you layered it… and, it really was too cute to send back! Love the pop of color from your skirt, too!

Thank you Carrie! I have a long torso and so many tops these days are crop tops! When I teach I am pointing and writing on the board, making even the slightly short tops inappropriate for work. I’m so glad I got this idea from Pinterest because now I feel like more of the cute crop tops aren’t completely out of the picture!

Thanks Brooke! This skirt is one of those, “hmm…I can pull of orange, right?” picks from years ago and it’s still a favorite in my closet!
