Well, it has been an insane week of back-to-school fun! Being a teacher in a new school is just like being a new kid at a school. You’re nervous and don’t know anyone and just want everyone to like you! My back to school outfit was the least of my worries! I hardly got any sleep, but the week went really well! I am REALLY happy to be back in the classroom and I just get PUMPED by the end of a lesson. So, praise God for small miracles! I made it through my first week and so far everything is great!
This is the back to school outfit I wore for the first day of school. I was really stumped because I typically recommend wearing something very formal on your first day back to school. It gives off a “I mean business” kind of vibe. But on our first day back to school at my school we had a barbecue on the quad! I thought, “Oh boy! I can’t wear heels because they’ll sink in the ground but I still want to dress professionally!” In the end I choose this outfit because it seemed professional but also somewhat picnic-style.

I bought these studded bow flats from the Nordstrom Anniversary sale and absolutely love them. I love that they have a cushioned foot base and cute studded bows. They were a great pairing with my new gingham skirt. I’ve wanted a gingham skirt for a while now and this one is such a steal. It seems a little see-through in certain light but I actually didn’t have any problems with it. I got multiple compliments on that first day about my skirt. One of my students actually asked where I got it and I directed her to Shein! She’s now in love with the site!

Lastly, this cardigan is a great closet staple. You can see the last time I wore it on the blog here. The best part is that it comes in a ton of colors!
Any other teachers out there? What would YOU wear to a back-to-school, first-day barbecue!?

This is so cute! I’m a teacher too and totally agree about looking professional, especially on the first day. You definitely accomplish that, yet this outfit manages to be fun too! Have a great week in the classroom!

Thanks Katherine! I used to think that I had to dress with “work pants” to be professional but it’s so not the case! Plus, skirts in the classroom are very comfortable for me! Have a great week in the classroom yourself! Thanks for stopping by!

Thanks Brooke! Sometimes it’s hard to get away from a “teacher outfit,” haha. Every time I wear a cardigan I think, “Well…I look like every other teacher ever today!” So I go throw on a gingham skirt in the hopes that I still feel somewhat trendy! ha!

I love pretty skirts like yours. I think they are fine for work – you as a teacher and even for me in an office. Put together but still fun and feminine.
Virginia says
Yes! I love pretty skirts for that reason too! When your work environment is more formal it can get a little boring with just “work pants” day in, day out. Skirts are a fun way to mix it up!

So glad to hear that your week went well! You look adorable, and I love the pink and gingham combo.

While I’m not a teacher I think this is a great outfit! I love your studded flats, flats with a little interest like that are always a good compromise for when you can’t wear heels.
It’s good to hear your first week at your new school went well too! 🙂
Hope you have a lovely weekend ahead!

Thank you! That’s true, flats with a little interest are a great way to compromise when heels are not an option! Plus, I just love flats that are just a “little different”!

Hi Virginia! I absolutely adore this look! I am a huge fan of gingham and I love the vintage feel when gingham is on a midi skirt. The pink cardi is absolute perfection with it! Such a happy, cheerful look.

Thanks Shelbee! It’s funny you mentioned vintage feel because I kinda felt like I needed a sock hop to go to that day! lol, but anything that makes me want to dance and twirl at work is a win in my book! Thanks for stopping by!

Thanks so much Kristen! I was so happy when midi skirts became a “thing” because they’re so comfortable for me to wear!
