The sun has finally returned to New England! The time for a button-up chambray outfit recipe is almost over because long sleeves are out and summer tanks are in! I know you can’t tell by these pictures, but as I’m writing this I’m even considering lugging our air conditioners up from the basement! Hooray! Summer is here!

Even though I’m feeling like summer, sometimes schools still don’t. The air conditioner can make it freezing even when outside temps make you want to head to the beach! As a result, it’s good to know some easy ways to layer. A button-up chambray is one of those closet staples that is good to have on hand. Not only can it help you add a layer if the air conditioner is up too high but it’s an easy way to change-up an outfit.
You may remember this dress from my Easter dress post. I’m still in love with it because it can be worn so many ways. In this post I wanted to show you a way you can “dress it down” a little and wear it to work. Just add chambray! My favorites are fitted and long enough to tie. This gives the top more versatility because you can tuck it in or tie it in front. An easy outfit recipe is to take a dress you already own and tie a button-up chambray over the top. Add a pretty statement necklace and some comfy shoes and you’ve just made your more formal dress appropriate for the classroom! I use this trick for both formal and casual dresses. (I did that with the pretty metallic dress from this post too!)

I love doing tied chambray, especially with midi skirts. I would never guess that yours is actually a dress under there! Very cute!

Yes! I got the idea to do it over dresses from a blogger years ago, I can’t even remember who at this point. But it’s great because I find myself shying away from dresses because they aren’t as versatile. But if you treat them like a skirt and just wear them under or over another item, they are almost as versatile as a skirt!

Superb !
Lately chambray shirts have been quite a discovery, they suddenly look good with everything like you’ve shown here.
Virginia says
Chambray shirts are great. I picked this one up a few years ago because I saw people wearing them so many ways and I’ve discovered it’s like my black and white striped top, can be worn with just about everything!

When I first your outfit I actually thought it was a skirt and not a dress! That is an excellent way to style a dress!
Virginia says
Yes Lanae! When I wear it this way it often gets mistaken for a skirt! It’s a great way to “add skirts” to my closet using dresses I already have!
Jill says
Love the contrast of the chambray and lace! This is such a pretty look!
