Pardon the pony tail, but it has been so hot and humid the last few days here in Westerly, RI! Despite the heat I ventured out with some friends to a local farm for ice cream and sunflowers but it was so hot that I think I may need to invest some time into learning how to braid (or research how to deal with hair and humidity)! I’ve stopped even trying to curl my hair and wear it down, as after 10 minutes I’m overheating and swinging it back up into a pony tail again! So if any of you have tips for how to deal with straight, thick hair in humid weather, let me know in the comment section below!

Jeremy and I went to explore the Marina down from our house for this post. I love the bell sleeves on this top, especially how the sleeves are fitted at the top and then flare out (I will admit, however, that the fitted aspect is not awesome in humidity). The neckline is just perfect, as it hits right at the shoulders without riding up and needing to be adjusted. Normally I would pair this kind of breezy bell sleeve top with skinny jeans (like in this post) but there was no way I was going to wear jeans, even for pictures, in this heat. Instead, I grabbed the shorts from this post and found that I actually really liked pairing jean shorts and bell sleeves.

The pattern on this top is very versatile. I’ve worn it with my Turquoise Danielle earrings also but since I’ve already done a pairing with bell sleeves and my Danielle earrings I thought I would bring back some faves from last year. Tassel earrings have been a summer statement staple for the past few summers. These particular tassel earrings are no longer in stock (I wore them here), but Baublebar has new tassel earring designs that are just as fun and will add a pop of color to your jean shorts and bell sleeves!

Welcome to my new hometown! I’m so excited to share my first post with you from Westerly, RI and can’t wait to feature more of the beautiful places in town. This was taken right outside the library in downtown Westerly, at the entrance to one of the most peaceful spots in town – Wilcox Park.

Today I’m sharing a very versatile summer sundress. I have gotten a number of compliments on the pattern and I love how it is the perfect length and under $20. Originally I wanted to photograph this on the beach before I left the Seattle area, but that never happened. Instead, I’m showing you a way you could dress it up for a nice night out or a summer wedding. Don’t think you can’t wear your summer sundress as a wedding guest! Especially with this dress, the pattern itself is so wonderful that all it takes to dress it up is to add a few dainty details. A few months ago I purchased some nude heels and then worked on finding some purses (like this gold-accented purse) that would match. I can put them with a variety of summer dresses to make them more classy.

I love the way this look turned out, but don’t be fooled! Pack it for your trip to the beach too! Add a great straw hat and pair of sandals, and throw it on over your swim suit! It really is such a versatile summer sundress. Even wearing this sundress as a wedding guest there is versatility. You can see two different ways to feature the dress above.

It’s been a crazy few weeks here in the Evans household. School ends Monday and then a week from Tuesday, my husband and I are going to be loading a moving pod and moving to Rhode Island. It’s been a long time coming, but it sure seems like everything has been coming together last minute and I have found that with finals, grading, and packing up my classroom and the house, that my blog has suffered from neglect. Today’s post won’t include outfit photos, but I wanted to share with you some items I’m loving for the 4th of July!

It should surprise no one that as an AP US Government teacher, the 4th of July is a holiday I really get into every year. Maybe it’s because I grew up in rural America where patriotism was a way of life, and maybe it’s because my family always taught me to value what I have been given growing up in America. In teaching US Government I am constantly facing our country’s current unresolved issues and inequalities but at the beginning of the day when we say the pledge of allegiance, I truly do feel pride in my country and speak the words as a commitment I intend to work towards.

Leading up to the 4th of July, a number of retailers pull out their red, white and blue. Some of my favorites are Old Navy and Target, but even Nordstrom is getting in on the action! This year I picked up this affordable striped tank and some LOFT blue gingham shorts (not online) for my 4th of July outfit. Be sure to follow me on Instagram to see how I put them together!
