I know it’s crazy to start thinking about heading back to school, but I know that some of you start back VERY soon! That means it’s time for back-to-school teacher style! I love everything about getting ready to go back to school…except maybe the curriculum planning! Ha! If you haven’t already, it’s a good time to check out my Tips for Teacher Back to School Shopping. Labor Day is my favorite time for back-to-school shopping, but since some of you start very soon, I want to share one great place to find what you need to build your school wardrobe.
Last week I wrote about Jane.com’s Summer Clearance, where there were AWESOME deals on outfit basics for the classroom. This week I will give you a more in-depth look at all of the great options at Jane!
The products on Jane.com are only on the site for a few days, so the links will expire quickly. Because of that, I will break this post down into 2 parts.
- Part 1 – I link to categories that I think will help you build a solid teacher wardrobe
- Part 2 – I provide outfit ideas for Back-to-School Teacher Style by combining items I found on Jane.com.
If you see something you like, you will want to act fast because some colors and styles sell out quickly. I am an affiliate for Jane.com, which means that if you make a purchase through the links in this post, I will make a small commission at no cost to you. For more information, please see my privacy policy. Thank you for supporting the retailers that make this blog possible.
Build Your Back-To-School Teacher Style
Unlike the more formal Back To School Fashion Guide for teachers I did a few years ago (and still would 100% stand behind), there are also some more casual outfit basics that make up a teacher’s wardrobe.
Cardigans
Cardigans add some color to a very basic outfit. They also allow you to add warmth when the air conditioner is too high or when the heat can’t be turned up in the winter months! Wear them with jeans and a basic top, dress pants, over leggings or white skinny jeans, with skirts and even dresses.
Jane has cardigans at all price points and in all colors and styles. I especially enjoy a long cardigan like this one or this one. If you like shorter cardigans, they have them in every color imaginable (see here and here). I bought this one last week for back-to-school!
Dresses
I love dresses for work because they look professional and are often more comfortable than pants. Plus, the right dress can be accessorized with scarves, bright earrings, or cardigans (see above). I adore this one I bought on Jane last week.
My favorite dress styles for back-to-school teacher style would be the:
Midi Dress
Midi Dresses are comfortable and an appropriate length for school. Floral midi dresses look so cute with a jean jacket or cardigan. Solid midi dresses (or striped!) are easy to accessorize with scarves or bright earrings. Sleeveless midi dresses like this one are the best for layering. Wear them under a cardigan or over a long-sleeve top during the winter.
Maxi Dress
Maxi dresses look great under a cardigan or jean jacket, especially in the fall. They are elegant and functional. You don’t have to worry about them flying up when walking outside on a windy day.
Swing Dress
I find swing dresses to be the most comfortable but I recommend a vest or belt with this type of dress to create shape. Wouldn’t this be cute with a jean vest?! Oh yeah, and be careful on those windy days!
Tee Dress
In the fall, Jane has a popular tee dress that looks similar to the Lularoe Julia dress. Tee dresses are thinner fabric, like a t-shirt, but very soft. Tee dresses can be maxi, midi, or short, so they span the other categories.
Dresses with Pockets
Yes, you can actually search the website for dresses WITH POCKETS! Go here. You’re welcome!
Skirts & Blouses
If dresses aren’t your thing, you’ll find a lot of great skirts and blouses on Jane. Throughout the year, they have a variety of pencil skirts and A-line skirts.
Blouses run the gamut from super-affordable basic tunics (like this), to unique tops and beautiful Luxe pieces like this gorgeous lace top (that would sell for close to $100 elsewhere)!
Shoes and Accessories
Years ago, my first purchase from Jane was a statement necklace. I still love their variety of gorgeous earrings, including designer look-a-likes. And, anyone remember these shoes (also here)? Recently when I was in Nordstrom, the saleslady complimented me on my ‘Vince Camutos’. Little did she know that I got them for $35 on Jane!
Check out their collection of affordable booties, comfortable block heeled shoes, and wedges. As with any shoe purchase, make sure to check the reviews for each item.

Some Final Notes about Jane
Items on Jane.com come from a variety of small-businesses. This means that, from one retailer to another:
- Shipping costs vary and may be different depending on how many items you order from the same shop. The outfits I put together above did not include shipping.
- Time before shipping may differ.
- Sizing may be different.
- Item quality may differ. Jane now has reviews for each shop and item. I always check these before I order.
Make sure you are aware of these things when you order and carefully read the item description and any reviews. I have been satisfied in the many years I’ve ordered from Jane, but I’ve had to return several items due to sizing. I purchase more confidently now that Jane includes reviews.
Have you ordered from Jane before? How did you feel about the items you ordered? Let me know in the comments below! And, if you’re new to More to Mrs. E, be sure to check out my Top 5 Places to Shop for Teacher Clothes and Top 5 Teacher Shoes!
And, that’s a wrap! I hope this post has helped you see the variety of options available on Jane.com for your teacher-wardrobe needs! Definitely leave me any questions in the comments below! Thank you so much for reading!
