Is anyone else CRAVING fall outfits? The trees are changing colors and the light is shifting to that orangey fall glow and I just want to wear cozy cardigans, blanket scarves and booties! This shawl neck cardigan is so soft and cozy, perfect for fall! There have been a few days where I’ve been able to indulge and try out some of the purchases I made in the last few months when I was daydreaming about fall. Hopefully this humidity will fade away soon and I can truly indulge the fall!

Last year I started to see flare jeans make their way back into the fashion scene. I know. Anyone having flashbacks of Junior High? I know I did! It brought back memories of wearing my favorite pair of flares (embarrassingly) almost every day. Last year I looked for the perfect pair of flare jeans but only the more expensive designers had pairs that I liked. This fall they are back and more retailers have made them a part of their new fall releases. I LOVE these high-waisted flare jeans. The color is so dark and rich and, especially when worn with heels, they are so flattering. I bought these on Labor Day for 40% and they are on sale again, which makes them more affordable! They run long so I would recommend trying them on in store. I actually ordered them through the store (no shipping!) in the “short” version and that made them the perfect length.

I am so excited for this post! In the past few weeks I’ve talked a little about the challenges we’ve had in moving to Westerly, RI. One of the challenges I have been dealing with is how to come up with new outfit ideas for the blog while working with a limited amount of clothing. I’m sorry to those of you who want to be able to buy the exact items I wear. That’s just not easy right now because I am not buying many items. As a result of the move, I have had to limit my shopping budget while we plan for new house expenses and as I am delayed in getting a job (long story). But oddly enough, this has been a fun challenge! Since I am limited to the items I was able to fit in my suitcase (the rest of my clothes are in storage until next week!), I have been forced to figure out how to wear them in a new way!

Last week I pulled items out of my closet and started playing around, combining them in new ways. It was so fun to think out of the box! As I did that, I was reminded of a tip I learned from J’s Everyday Fashion – repurpose your dress! A striped midi dress is a great option to have in your closet just for the versatility it offers. I showed two ways to wear this striped midi dress earlier in the spring. Today I want to show you how to repurpose your dress by layering it under a skirt! I don’t have a lot of long-sleeved shirts right now, as most of the clothes I packed were planning for summer weather, but as the hurricane (my first!!) moved north our weather started to cool. Enter striped midi dress.

Repurpose your dress from summer or spring by wearing a skirt over the top! I have done this by layering a light dress under a pencil skirt but I think it works best with A-line skirts because if the fabric bunches up under the skirt, it is less noticeable.

I am pretty proud of this new combination! Plus, I’m so happy to share my new black purse for fall and winter! Once again, the MG Collection from Amazon comes through for me by making a quality product for a great price!

Watching so many teacher friends getting ready to go back to school made me start thinking about work outfits! Last year in my back to school post I wrote about all the different “teacher outfit staples” and a navy polka dot blouse has become another one of these for me. I noticed last week that J.Crew has a very similar blue polka dot blouse to one I own so I have been thinking about how I can wear it for work. When I was repacking some boxes last week in preparation for moving into our house, I came across these white ankle pants and this red neck scarf. An outfit idea was born! You really can’t go wrong with Red and Blue.

Neck scarves started showing up on runways and in Spring designer collections a few months ago and I’ve been waiting to see how I can try the trend. I have been working on ways to re-wear things I already own so I was really happy to come across this red polka dot scarf again (I bought it for my Rosie the Riveter Costume this year!).

The other two major items in this outfit – the navy polka dot blouse and white ankle pants – are such great work outfit basics that when you find one that fits and is made of quality material, buy it. I found the Drew Ankle Pants from The Limited this spring and love them for the thick fabric and inner lining that make them less see-through.
