The next couple days mark important days in the yearly sale calendar. The Nordstrom Anniversary Sale starts today for Nordstrom cardholders, and Amazon Prime Day is Monday and Tuesday of next week. I will have a post dedicated to the Prime Sale launching on Monday, but right now I want to talk a little about the Nordstrom Anniversary sale.
Over the years I’ve featured quite a few posts about the Nordstrom Anniversary sale because it’s secretive, exclusive (at first) and exciting. That being said, I have also come to realize over the years that for the most part, the deals are just not worth it enough for me. I’m a bargain shopper, but the bargains during the Nordstrom sale (though good) are still more expensive than I want to spend on most items. Last year I wrote a post about what is worth buying and what to skip for the Nordstrom Sale. You can find it here.

That being said, there are some items that I do believe are worth buying during the Nordstrom Anniversary Sale this year. They are:
Quality Shoes
As I’ve explained numerous times before (most noteably here), I believe in investing in shoes. As a teacher I was on my feet all day and really needed comfortable shoes. You only get one pair of feet and if you ruin them with bad shoes, it will affect you the rest of your life. I’m not saying that cheap shoes can’t be comfortable, but in my experience, a good pair of quality shoes will last longer and be more comfortable than ones I found at the local bargain store.
The Anniversary sale is your fall preview so look out for booties and cute flats. There are a LOT of good shoes worth buying on sale this year. Shoe-lovers beware!
Boots and Booties
I love THIS Vince Camuto bootie for fall, and it’s already sold out in one style.
These Steve Madden Rockstud booties were SO cute and I bet they will sell out quickly. My only issue was that I had a hard time getting them on. I had to actually size up. I love both styles below. You will see a lot of both prints this fall.
This BP stacked bootie is going to be a popular one. Not only is it affordable, but it’s pretty comfortable. It fit pretty true to size. My only issue was that my ankle didn’t have much space for movement. That doesn’t bother everyone, but if it does, try sizing up. These would be a great purchase for fall if the ankle thing doesn’t bother you.
Do note that they are a little higher of a heel than some booties. Still…they look great on! Quite slimming.
Instead of the BP version above, I chose this pair of braided booties in black. They are comfortable, not quite as high in the ankle and are waterproof!
They have all your neutral colors available.
These perforated booties will likely be another popular shoe this sale. The leather is buttery and flexible. There is a small heel but not too much.
The color selection is limited but it’s a beautiful shoe!
Finally, I didn’t try these over-the-knee boots on, but they are an affordable option if you’re looking for a pair!
Flats & Pumps
My favorite shoe of the bunch:
Studded flat. Flexible, true to size, and beautiful! All the color options are great too.
And…it’s $60, one of the better prices of the sale!
These came home with me in black.
I’m a big fan of Sam Edelman shoes (particularly the leopard kind) and love to buy them at the Nordstrom sale. These flats are so cute but they seemed to run a little big on me. Sizing could be tricky (not to worry, Nordstrom has free shipping and free returns!).
I would buy these leopard d’orsay pumps if I didn’t already own a pair. In fact, if you are a fan of the leopard heels I always wear, these are the closest I’ve ever found to the pair I own. They are a mid-heel, very comfortable and from the same designer! True to size.
High End Designer Shoes
This is a good time to grab some Hunter Boots. This year they have a pair of tall, black boots on sale. It’s a great price, too – definitely worth buying if you are looking for a pair.
Tory Burch has a number of options on sale. These flats would be a great basic.
Accessories
For accessories you know will you will want to have over the long-haul, it’s worth buying a quality piece. Felt hats that aren’t well made loose their shape easily. Purses that aren’t well made don’t hold up to regular use. If you are ready to invest in some higher-quality items, the Nordstrom Sale often has some good options for you.
Felt Hats
If you are a hat person, they almost always have a few good felt/wool hats on sale. This one is very cute and for a good price. See more below.
Jewelry
My number one pick for jewelry this year would be these beautiful Kendra Scott earrings. The pair of earrings that have gotten the most use in my collection over the years are my white Corley Earrings by Kendra Scott. (See them here and here)
However, they are very hard to track down. These have a similar look and would be just as versatile.
Even better, they are under $35!!! YES! Buy now! (P.S. I love the Abolone shell too!)
If you like Kendra Scott, this dainty necklace is another good buy. I wear mine similar to this one quite frequently. It’s a beautiful little accent.

I ADORE this purse. If I could justify the money, I would buy it. If you’re looking for a good investment purse, this beautiful leather tote would be a great purchase.
This one is beautiful too! Note that it is a little small.
For a similar crossbody to the one linked directly above, try this one.
$40, rather than $300
Clothing
In general, I don’t often believe clothing is worth buying during the Nordstrom sale. However, if you like soft clothing or unique colors or shapes, it might be worth the cost.
For example, there are a TON of soft, comfy loungewear on sale this year and I would pay $30 for that kind of softness!
These have tons of color options and are so cozy. Don’t forget the coordinating top! I ended up coming home with these. They will sell out!
You can see more options in the following widget:
I did come home with this sweater. It’s not too expensive and the color and pattern are not one I would be able to find many other places.
It is cropped but I just adore the pink color and it’s under $40.
I had my eye open for this sweater but it wasn’t in my store! Isn’t this green beautiful though?
It’s on sale for $26!
Some items that did not work for me:
- Caslon Thermal Henley – I loved the colors (especially the yellow) but it was just too see-through. It is VERY soft though. Maybe try this one instead.
- Topshop Ribbed Sweater – This had the most perfect cut and it fit well, but it was too see-through.
- I loved this longline cardigan. The fit was perfect and it had a light, flowy feel to it. Plus, it was SO soft! It even had pockets. But, I couldn’t justify the $50.
- I did like this longline cardigan and it’s affordable. But, in the context of everything else, it did not come home with me. It’s true to size.
All in all, there are some good options during this year’s Nordstrom Anniversary sale. I had a fun time driving to Hartford and seeing what was available.
If you are a Nordstrom Cardholder, you can shop now! If you WANT to be, sign up HERE.
Otherwise, the sale opens to the public July 19th and sale prices will remain until August 4. If you find something you can’t do without, buy now. You can always return it (free returns) but things sell out quickly.
If something you like sells out, don’t stress. Check again when the sale goes public July 19th. They will often re-stock top items.
Ok folks, I’ll be back Monday with info on the Amazon Prime day! In the meantime, let me know what you’re looking forward to shopping for this month!
Thanks so much for stopping by!
